ATP is an innovative solution for the networking of Walther grinders, electrolytic grinders and measuring machines, as well as for upstream and downstream machines of other system partners in the production process.
Increased efficiency, increased competition, and a shortage of skilled labor make a higher degree of automation in industrial production an absolute necessity. Walter's new "Automated Tool Production (ATP)" system requires no additional floor space and can be integrated into existing system layouts or serve as an interface to other manufacturers' machines. Walter developed this automation solution with a strong partner. The system control is based on OPC-UA data model FLAMES. It includes at least one frontal accessible robotic unit (ATP ROBOCELL) for automatic loading and unloading of machines, and at least one autonomous mobile transport robot (ATP AMR) for transporting workpiece pallets and individual parts between storage and processing stations. This also includes standardized modes of communication between machines and ATP AMR transport robots, as well as control systems for advanced data and process control.
Maximum flexibility
Walter customers can easily retrofit ATP systems into existing production equipment without changing the existing system layout and without being influenced by automation suppliers. To date, mold manufacturers without Walther equipment can also integrate ATP systems into existing production.
The ATP ROBOCELL can be accessed from the front, providing 3 airlocks and additional cushioning space so that production does not need to wait or even shut down. There is a separate workpiece removal station between the measuring machine and the processing machine, which is used to exchange individual workpieces during machining, enabling automatic correction and a complete closed-loop process. In the ATP ROBOCELL, the multi-range fixture contributes to the high flexibility of the system. It can cover a large workpiece diameter range without replacing the fixture unit, and the chuck can be replaced at the same time.
We worked closely with strong partners to develop this innovative system. Simon Kummerle, Strategic Product Manager at Walter Grinding Technology, explains: The combination of our expertise in tool machining and measurement with the know-how of our partners in automation gives our customers a state-of-the-art automation solution in every respect.
